Sam Quatell on horseback

Sam Quatell, born in 1912, was the grandson of Jim Quatell, owner of the largest big house on the Tyee Spit in the early 1940s. The Quatell big house was used to host the McKenna-McBride Commission when it visited Campbell River in 1914. Sam (Yalthklan) and his wife Amy had 19 children. He passed away in 1974, and Amy in 2011.
