Reubina and Johnny Ferry Junior in old WW2 style kapok life jackets. Life jackets filled with kapok, a buoyant fibre harvested from a tropical tree, were extensively used by several navies during World War II. Generations of post-war coastal kids grew up with these cumbersome and much-hated life saving devices. Sharp eyes will spot a third person making sure the children don’t fall down the open hatch behind them.
