May Day celebrations at St. Michael’s Indian Residential school in Alert Bay. Elizabeth (Glendale) Quocksister captured this image of the school’s May Day celebrations while a student at St. Michael’s, sometime between 1936 and 1939. A keen observer, she later introduced Maypole dancing to children from the local band.
